5:1 Therefore I, even-elder and a witness of Christ’s passions, beseech the elder men that be in you, which also am a communer of that glory that shall be shewed in time to come, The seniors which are among you I exhort, which am also a senior, and a witness of the afflictions of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be opened: The elders which are among you, I beseech which am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed, The Elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an Elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed.
5:2 feed ye the flock of God, that is among you, purveying not constrainingly, but wilfully, after God; not for love of foul winning, but wilfully, see that ye feed Christ’s flock, which is among you, taking the oversight of them, not as though ye were compelled thereto: but willingly: Not for the desire of filthy lucre: but of a good mind. Feed the flock of God, which dependeth upon you, caring for it not by constraint, but willingly: not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly: not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind:
5:3 neither as having lordship in the clergy, but made form of the flock, and of intent. Not as though ye were lords over the parishes: but that ye be an ensample to the flock. Not as though ye were lords over God’s heritage, but that ye may be ensamples to the flock. Neither as being lords over God’s heritage: but being ensamples to the flock.
5:4 And when the prince of shepherds shall appear, ye shall receive the crown of glory, that shall never fade. and when the chief shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive an incorruptible crown of glory. And when the chief shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive an incorruptible crown of glory. And when the chief shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
5:5 Also ye younger men, be subject to elder men, forsooth all shew ye together meekness; for the Lord withstandeth proud men, but he giveth grace to meek men. Likewise ye younger submit yourselves unto the elder. Submit yourselves every man, one to another. Knit yourselves together in lowliness of mind. For god resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble. Likewise ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elders, & submit yourselves every man, one to another: deck yourselves inwardly in lowliness of mind: for God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble. Likewise ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder: yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
5:6 Therefore be ye meeked under the mighty hand of God, that he raise you in the day of visitation, Submit yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of god, that he may exalt you, when the time is come. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,
5:7 ye casting into him all your busyness, for to him is care of you. Cast all your care to him: for he careth for you. Cast all your care on him: for he careth for you. Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.
5:8 Be ye sober, and wake ye, for your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion goeth about, seeking whom he shall devour. Be sober and watch, for your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Be sober and watch: for your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring Lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
5:9 Whom against stand ye, strong in the faith, witting the same passion to be done to that your brotherhood, that is in the world. whom resist stedfast in the faith, remembering that ye do but fulfill the same afflictions which are appointed to your brethren that are in the world. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren which are in the world. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
5:10 And God of all grace, that called you into his everlasting glory, you suffering a little in Christ Jesus, he shall perform, shall confirm, and shall make firm. The God of all grace, which called you unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, shall his own self after a little affliction make you perfect: shall settle, strengthen, and stablish you. And the God of all grace, which hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little, make you perfect, confirm, strengthen and stablish you. But the God of all grace who hath called us into his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
5:11 To him be glory and lordship, into worlds of worlds. Amen. To him be glory and dominion for ever, and while the world endureth Amen. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
5:12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother to you as I deem, I wrote shortly; beseeching, and witnessing that this is the very grace of God, in which ye stand. By Silvanus a faithful brother unto you (as I suppose) have I written briefly, exhorting and testifying how that this is the true grace of god, wherein ye stand. By Silvanus a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, have I written briefly, exhorting and testifying how that this is the true grace of God, wherein ye stand. By Silvanus a faithful brother unto you, (as I suppose) I have written briefly, exhorting, & testifying, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
5:13 The church that is gathered at Babylon greeteth you well, and Marcus, my son. The congregation that is gathered together in Babylon, saluteth you, and Marcus my son. The Church that is at Babylon elected together with you, saluteth you, and Marcus my son. The Church that is at Babylon elected, together with you, saluteth you, and so doth Marcus my son.
5:14 Greet ye well together in holy kiss. Grace be to you all that be in Christ. Amen. Greet ye one another with the kiss of love. Peace be with you all which are in Christ Jesus, Amen. Greet ye one another with the kiss of love. Peace be with you all which are in Christ Jesus. Amen. Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity: Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
