4:1 But I say, as long time as the heir is a little child, he diverseth nothing from a servant, when he is lord of all; And I say that the heir as long as he is a child differeth not from a servant, though he be lord of all, Then I say, that the heir as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all, Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all,
4:2 but he is under tutors and keepers, till the time determined of the father. but is under tutors and governors, until the time appointed of the father. But is under tutors and governors, until the time appointed of the father. But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
4:3 So and we, when we were little, were serving under the elements of the world. Even so we, as long as we were children, were in bondage under the ordinations of the world: Even so, we when we were children, were in bondage under the rudiments of the world. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the Elements of the world:
4:4 But after that the fulfilling of the time came, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, but when the time was full come, god sent his son born of a woman, and made bond unto the law, But when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his Son made of a woman, & made under the Law, But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son made of a woman, made under the Law,
4:5 that he should again-buy them that were under the law, that we should receive the adoption of sons. to redeem them which were under the law: that we through election should receive the inheritance that belongeth unto the natural sons. That he might redeem them which were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption of the sons. To redeem them that were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
4:6 And for ye be God’s sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Because ye are sons, God hath sent the spirit of his son into our hearts, which crieth abba father. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, which crieth, Abba, Father. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying Abba, Father.
4:7 Therefore now there is not servant, but son; that if son, then and heir by God. Wherefore now art thou not a servant, but a son. if thou be the son, thou art also the heir of god through Christ. Wherefore, thou art no more a servant, but a son: now if thou be a son, thou art also the heir of God through Christ. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
4:8 But then soothly ye unknowing God, served to them that in kind were not gods. Notwithstanding, when ye knew not god, ye did service unto them, which by nature were not gods: But even then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them, which by nature are not gods. Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
4:9 Now forsooth when ye have known God, yea, rather ye be known of God, how be ye turned together again to sick, and needy elements, to which ye will serve again? but now seeing ye know god (yea rather are known of God) how is it that ye turn again unto the weak and beggarly ceremonies, whereunto again ye desire afresh to be in bondage? But now seeing ye know God, yea, rather are known of God, how turn ye again unto impotent and beggarly rudiments, whereunto as from the beginning ye will be in bondage again? But now after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly Elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
4:10 Ye keep days, and months, and times, and years. ye observe the days, and months, and times, and years. Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
4:11 But I dread you, lest peradventure I have travailed in you without cause. I fear of you, lest I have bestowed on you labour in vain. I am in fear of you, lest I have bestowed on you labour in vain. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
4:12 Be ye as I, for I am as ye. Brethren, I beseech you, ye have nothing hurt me. Brethren I beseech you, be ye as I am: for I am as ye are. Ye have not hurt me. Be ye as I: for I am even as you: brethren, I beseech you: ye have not hurt me at all. Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are, ye have not injured me at all.
4:13 But ye know, that by infirmity of flesh I have evangelized to you now before; Ye know well how that through infirmity of the flesh, I preached the gospel unto you at the first: And ye know, how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the Gospel unto you at the first. Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh, I preached the Gospel unto you at the first.
4:14 and your temptation in my flesh ye despised not, neither forsook, but ye received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. and my temptation which I suffered by reason of the flesh, ye despised not, neither abhorred: but received me as an angel of God: yea as Christ Jesus. And the trial of me which was in my flesh, ye despised not, neither abhorred: but ye received me as an Angel of God, yea, as Christ Jesus. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected, but received me as an Angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
4:15 Where is therefore your blessedness, that ye had beforetime? For I bear you witness, that if it might have been done, ye would have put out your eyes, and have given them to me. How happy were ye then? for I bear you record that if it had been possible, ye would have digged out your own eyes, and have given them to me. What was then your felicity? for I bear you record, that if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me. Where is then the blessedness you spake of? for I bear you record, that if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
4:16 Therefore am I made enemy to you, saying true thing to you? Am I so greatly become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
4:17 They love you not well, but they will exclude you, that ye follow them. They are jealous over you amiss. Yea they intend to exclude you that ye should be fervent to them-ward. They are jealous over you amiss: yea, they would exclude you, that ye should altogether love them. They zealously affect you, but not well: yea, they would exclude you, that you might affect them.
4:18 But follow ye the good evermore in good, and not only when I am present with you. It is good always to be fervent, so it be in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you. But it is a good thing to love earnestly always in a good thing, & not only when I am present with you, But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
4:19 My little sons, whom I child again, till Christ be formed in you, My little children (of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be fashioned in you) My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, until Christ be formed in you. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, until Christ be formed in you:
4:20 and I would now be at you, and change my voice, for I am confounded in you. I would I were with you now, and could change my voice, for I stand in a doubt of you. And I would I were with you now, that I might change my voice: for I am in doubt of you. I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice, for I stand in doubt of you.
4:21 Say to me, ye that will be under the law, have ye not read the law? Tell me ye that desire to be under the law: have ye not heard of the law? Tell me, ye that will be under the Law, do ye not hear the Law? Tell me, ye that desire to be under the Law, do ye not hear the Law?
4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one of a servant, one of the handmaiden, and one of the free wife. For it is written that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one by a servant, & one by a freewoman. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
4:23 Forsooth he that was of the handmaiden was born after the flesh; but he that was of the free wife, was born by promise. Yea and he which was of the bondwoman, was born after the flesh: but he which was of the freewoman, was born by promise. But he which was of the servant, was born after the flesh: and he which was of the freewoman, was born by promise. But he who was of the bondwoman, was born after the flesh: but he of the freewoman, was by promise.
4:24 Which things be said by allegory. For why these things be two testaments; soothly the one in the mount Sinai, gendering into servage, that is Agar. Which things betoken mystery. For these women are two testaments, the one from the mount Sina, which gendereth unto bondage, which is Agar By the which things another thing is meant: for these mothers are the two Testaments, the one which is Agar of mount Sina, which gendereth unto bondage, Which things are an Allegory; for these are the two Covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
4:25 For Sinai is an hill that is in Arabia, which hill is joined to it that is now Jerusalem, and serveth with her children. (For mount Sina is called Agar in Arabia, and bordereth upon the city which is now Jerusalem) and is in bondage with her Children. (For Agar or Sina is a mountain in Arabia, & it answereth to Jerusalem which now is) and she is in bondage with her children. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem, which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
4:26 But that Jerusalem that is above, is free, which is our mother. But Jerusalem, which is above, is free: which is the mother of us all. But Jerusalem, which is above, is free: which is the mother of us all. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
4:27 For it is written, Be glad, thou barren, that bearest not; break out and cry, thou that childest not; for many sons be of the deserted, more than of her that hath an husband. For it is written: rejoice thou barren, that bearest no children: break forth and cry, thou that travailest not. For the desolate hath many more children, than she which hath an husband. For it is written, Rejoice thou barren that bearest no children: break forth, & cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children, than she which hath an husband. For it is written, Rejoice thou barren that bearest not, break forth and cry thou that travailest not; for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
4:28 Forsooth, brethren, we be after Isaac the sons of promise; Brethren we are after the manner of Isaac children of promise: Therefore, brethren, we are after the manner of Isaac, children of the promise. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
4:29 but as then he that was born after the flesh pursued him that was born after the Spirit, so and now. But as then he that was born carnally, persecuted him that was born spiritually. Even so is it now. But as then he that was born after the flesh, persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. But as then he that was born after the flesh, persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
4:30 But what saith the scripture? Cast out the handmaiden and her son, for the son of the handmaiden shall not be heir with the son of the free wife. Nevertheless what saith the scripture: Cast away the bondwoman and her son. For the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. But what saith the Scripture? Put out the servant and her son: for the son of the servant shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Nevertheless, what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
4:31 And so, brethren, we be not sons of the handmaiden, but of the free, by which liberty Christ hath made us free. So then brethren we are not children of the bondwoman: but of the freewoman. Then brethren, we are not children of the servant, but of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
