Ver.
Wycliffe (1382/95)
Tyndale (1526)
Geneva (1560)
King James (1611)
9:1 And Jesus passing, saw a man blind from the birth. And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth, And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
9:2 And his disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his father and mother, that he should be born blind? And his disciples asked him saying: Master who did sin: this man, or his father and mother, that he was born blind? And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
9:3 Jesus answered, Neither this man sinned, neither his father and mother; but that the works of God be shewed in him. Jesus answered: Neither this man hath sinned, nor yet his father and mother: but that the works of God should be shewed on him Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God should be shewed on him. Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
9:4 It behooveth me to work the works of him that sent me, the while the day is; the night shall come, when no man may work. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day. The night cometh, when no man can work. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.
9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
9:6 When he had said these things, he spat into the earth, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed the clay on his eyes, As soon as he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind, As soon as he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, & made clay of the spittle, and anointed the eyes of the blind with the clay, When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
9:7 and said to him, Go, and be thou washen in the water of Siloam, that is interpreted, Sent. Therefore he went, and washed, and came seeing. and said unto him: Go wash thee in the pool of Siloe (which by interpretation, signifieth sent) He went his way and washed, and came again seeing. And said unto him, Go wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent) He went his way therefore, and washed, & came again seeing. And said unto him, Go wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
9:8 And so neighbours, and they that had seen him before, for he was a beggar, said, Whether this is not he, that sat, and begged? The neighbours, and they that had seen him before how that he was a beggar said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Now the neighbours and they that had seen him before, when he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him, that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9:9 Other men said, That this it is; and other men said, Nay, but he is like him. But he said, I am he. Some said: this is he. other said: he is like him. He himself said: I am even he. Some said, This is he: & others said, He is like him: but he himself said, I am he. Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
9:10 Therefore they said to him, How be thine eyes opened? They said unto him: How are thine eyes opened then? Therefore they said unto him, How were thine eyes opened? Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
9:11 He answered, That man, that is said Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said to me, Go thou to the water of Siloam, and wash; and I went, and washed, and saw. He answered and said: The man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me: Go to the pool Siloe, and wash. I went and washed and received my sight. He answered, and said, The man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and received sight. He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
9:12 And they said to him, Where is he? He said, I know not. They said unto him: where is he? He said: I cannot tell. Then they said unto him, Where is he? He said, I cannot tell. Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
9:13 They led him that was blind to the Pharisees. Then brought they to the pharises, him that a little before was blind They brought to the Pharises him that was once blind. They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
9:14 And it was sabbath, when Jesus made clay, and opened his eyes. (It was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes) And it was the Sabbath day, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
9:15 Again the Pharisees asked him, how he had seen. And he said to them, He put to me clay on the eyes; and I washed, and I see. Then again the pharises also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them: He put clay upon mine eyes, And I washed, and I see. Then again the Pharises also asked him, how he had received sight. And he said unto them, He laid clay upon mine eyes, & I washed, and do see. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
9:16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not of God, for he keepeth not the sabbath. Other men said, How may a man sinner do these signs? And division was among them. Then said some of the pharises: This man is not of god, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. other said: how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was strife among them. Then said some of the Pharises, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner, do such miracles? and there was a dissension among them. Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? and there was a division among them
9:17 Therefore they say again to the blind man, What sayest thou of him, that opened thine eyes? And he said, That he is a prophet. Then spake they unto the blind again: What sayest thou of him, because he hath opened thine eyes? And he said: He is a prophet. Then spake they unto the blind again, What sayest thou of him, because he hath opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a Prophet. They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a Prophet.
9:18 Therefore the Jews believed not of him, that he was blind, and had seen, till they called his father and mother, that had seen. The jews did not believe of the fellow, how that he was blind, and had received his sight: until they had called the father and mother of him that had received his sight. Then the Jews did not believe him (that he had been blind, and received his sight) until they had called the parents of him that had received sight. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
9:19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, whom ye say, for he is born blind? how then seeth he now? And they asked them saying: Is this your son, whom ye say was born blind? How doth he now see then? And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, whom ye say was born blind? How doth he now see then? And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
9:20 His father and mother answered to them, and said, We know, that this is our son, and that he was born blind; His father and mother answered them and said: we wot well that this is our son, and that he was born blind: His parents answered them, & said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: His parents answered them, and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
9:21 but how he seeth now, we know not, or who opened his eyes, we know not; ask ye him, he hath age, speak he of himself. But by what means he now seeth, that can we not tell or who hath opened his eyes can we not tell. He is old enough, ask him, let him answer for himself, of things that pertain to himself. But by what means he now seeth, we know not: or who hath opened his eyes, can we not tell: he is old enough: ask him: he shall answer for himself. But by what means he now seeth, we know not, or who hath opened his eyes we know not: he is of age, ask him, he shall speak for himself.
9:22 His father and mother said these things, for they dreaded the Jews; forsooth now the Jews had conspired, that if any man acknowledged him Christ, he should be done out of the synagogue. Such words spake his father, and mother, because they feared the jews, for the jews had conspired already that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be excommunicate out of the Synagogue. These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had ordained already, that if any man did confess that he was the Christ, he should be excommunicate out of the Synagogue. These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the Synagogue.
9:23 Therefore his father and mother said, That he hath age, ask ye him. Therefore said his father and mother: he is old enough, ask him. Therefore said his parents, He is old enough: ask him. Therefore said his parents, He is of age, ask him.
9:24 Therefore again they called the man, that was blind, and said to him, Give thou glory to God; we know, that this man is a sinner. Then again called they the man that was blind and said unto him: Give God the praise, we know that this man is a sinner. Then again called they the man that had been blind, and said unto him, Give glory unto God: we know that this man is a sinner. Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise, we know that this man is a sinner.
9:25 Then he said, If he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that when I was blind, now I see. He answered and said: Whither he be a sinner or no, I cannot tell: One thing I am sure of, that I was blind, and now I see. Then he answered, and said, Whither he be a sinner or no, I cannot tell: one thing I know, that I was blind, and now I see. He answered, and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: One thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.
9:26 Therefore they said to him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? Then said they to him again: What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes? Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?
9:27 He answered to them, I said to you now, and ye heard; what will ye again hear? and ye will be made his disciples? He answered them, I told you erewhile, And ye did not hear. Wherefore would ye hear it again? Will ye also be his disciples? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye have not heard it: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? Will ye also be his disciples?
9:28 Therefore they cursed him, and said, Be thou his disciple; we be the disciples of Moses. Then rated they him, and said: Thou art his disciple. We are Moses’ disciples. Then checked they him, & said, Be thou his disciple: we be Moses’ disciples. Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples.
9:29 We know, that God spake to Moses; but we know not this, of whence he is. We are sure that God spake with Moses. This fellow we know not from whence he is. We know that God spake with Moses: but this man we know not from whence he is. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
9:30 That man answered, and said to them, For in this is a wonderful thing, that ye know not, of whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes. The man answered, and said unto them: this is a marvelous thing that ye wot nere whence he is, and yet hath he opened mine eyes. The man answered, and said unto them, Doubtless, this is a marvelous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. The man answered, and said unto them, Why herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
9:31 Soothly we know, for God heareth not sinners, but if any man is worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. We know well enough that God heareth no sinners: But if any man be a worshipper of God: and do what his will is, him heareth he. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him heareth he. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
9:32 From the world it is not heard, that any man opened the eyes of a blind-born man; Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind:
9:33 but this man were of God, he might not do any thing. if this man were not of god, he could have done nothing. If this man were not of God, he could have done nothing. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
9:34 They answered, and said to him, Thou art all born in sins, and thou teachest us? And they cast him out. They answered and said unto him: thou art altogether born in sin: and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. They answered, & said unto him, Thou art altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? so they cast him out. They answered, and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
9:35 Jesus heard, for they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said to him, Believest thou in the Son of God? Jesus heard that they had excommunicate him, and as soon as he had found him he said unto him: dost thou believe on the son of God? Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe in the Son of God? Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
9:36 He answered, and said, Lord, who is he, that I believe in him? He answered and said: And who is it lord, that I might believe on him? He answered, and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe in him? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
9:37 And Jesus said to him, And thou hast seen him, and he it is, that speaketh with thee. And Jesus said unto him: Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that talketh with thee. And Jesus said unto him, Both thou hast seen him, & he it is that talketh with thee. And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he fell down, and worshipped him. And he said: lord I believe. And worshipped him. Then he said, Lord, I believe, and worshipped him. And he said, Lord, I believe: and he worshipped him.
9:39 Therefore Jesus said to him, I came into this world, into doom, that they that see not, see, and they that see, be made blind. Jesus said: I am come unto judgement, into this world: that they which see not might see, and they which see might be made blind. And Jesus said, I am come unto judgement into this world, that they which see not, might see: & that they which see, might be made blind. And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not, might see, and that they which see, might be made blind.
9:40 And some of the Pharisees heard, that were with him, and they said to him, and we be blind? And some of the pharises which were with him, heard these words, and said unto him: Are we then blind? And some of the Pharises which were with him, heard these things, and said unto him, Are we blind also? And some of the Pharisees which were with him, heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
9:41 Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye should not have sin; but now ye say, That we see, your sin dwelleth. Jesus said unto them, if ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say we see, therefore your sin remaineth. Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should not have sin: but now ye say, We see: therefore your sin remaineth. Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see, therefore your sin remaineth.
