King James (1611)
20:1 The kingdom of heavens is like to an husbandman, that went out early to hire workmen into his vineyard. For the kingdom of heaven is like unto an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain house holder, which went out at the dawning of the day to hire labourers into his vineyard. For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
20:2 And when the covenant was made with the workmen, of a penny for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he agreed with the labourers for a penny a day and sent them into his vineyard. And he agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, and sent them into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the market. And he went out about the third hour, and saw other standing idle in the marketplace And he went out about the third hour, and saw other standing idle in the marketplace, And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
20:4 And he said to them, Go ye also into my vinery, and that that shall be rightful, I shall give to you. And they went forth. and said unto them go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever is right, I will give you. and they went their way. And said unto them, Go ye also into my vineyard, & whatsoever is right, I will give you: and they went their way. And said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, & whatsoever is right, I will give you. And they went their way.
20:5 Again he went out about the sixth hour, and the ninth, and did in like manner. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
20:6 But about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing; and said to them, What stand ye here idle all day? And he went out about the eleventh hour and found other standing idle, And said unto them: Why stand ye here all the day idle? And he went about the eleventh hour, and found other standing idle, and said unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? And about the eleventh hour, he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
20:7 They say to him, For no man hath hired us. He saith to them, Go ye also into my vineyard. They said unto him: because no man hath hired us. He said to them: go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever shall be right, that shall ye receive. They said unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He said to them, Go ye also into my vineyard, & whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard: and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
20:8 And when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his procuratour, Call the workmen, and yield to them their hire, beginning at the last till to the first. When even was come the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward: call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning at the last, till thou come to the first. And when even was come, the master of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning at the last, till thou come to the first. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his Steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last, unto the first.
20:9 Therefore when they came, that had come about the eleventh hour, also they took even-pence. And they which were hired about the eleventh hour, came and received every man a penny. And they which were hired about the eleventh hour, came and received every man a penny. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
20:10 Truly and the first coming deemed, that they were worthy to take more, truly and they took each one by himself a penny. Then came the first, supposing that they should receive more, and they likewise received every man a penny. Now when the first came, they supposed that they should receive more, but they likewise received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more, and they likewise received every man a penny.
20:11 And they taking grutched against the husbandman, And when they had received it, they grudged against the goodman of the house And when they had received it, they murmured against the master of the house, And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
20:12 saying, These last wrought one hour, and thou hast made them even to us, that have borne the charge of the day, and the heat? saying: These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us which have borne the burden and heat of the day. Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden, & heat of the day. Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden, and heat of the day.
20:13 And he answered to one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong; whether thou hast not accorded with me for a penny? He answered to one of them saying: friend I do thee no wrong. didst thou not agree with me for a penny? And he answered one of them, saying, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny? But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
20:14 Take that that is thine, and go; forsooth I will give also to this the last, as and to thee. Take that which is thy duty, and go thy way. I will give unto this last, as much as to thee. Take that which is thine own, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, as much as to thee. Take that thine is, and go thy way, I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
20:15 Whether it is not leaveful to me to do that that I will? Whether thine eye is wicked, for I am good? Is it not lawful for me to do as me listeth with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good? Is it not lawful for me to do as I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good? Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
20:16 So the last shall be the first, and the first the last; for many be called, but few chosen. So the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. For many are called, and few be chosen. So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen. So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
20:17 And Jesus, ascending up to Jerusalem, took his twelve disciples in private, and said to them, And Jesus ascended to Jerusalem, and took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said to them: And Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, And Jesus going up to Hierusalem, took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,
20:18 Lo! we go up to Jerusalem, and man’s Son shall be betaken to princes of priests, and to scribes; and they shall condemn him to death. Lo we go up to Jerusalem, and the son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief Priests, and unto the Scribes, & they shall condemn him to death, Behold, we go up to Hierusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief Priests, and unto the Scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
20:19 And they shall betake him to heathen men, to be scorned, and scourged, and crucified; and the third day he shall rise again. and shall deliver him to the gentiles, to be mocked, to be scourged, and to be crucified. and the third day he shall rise again. And shall deliver him to the Gentiles, to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: but the third day he shall rise again. And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
20:20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came nigh to him with her sons, worshipping, and asking something of him. Then came to him the mother of Zebede’s children with her sons worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. Then came to him the mother of Zebedeus’ children with her sons, worshipping him, & desiring a certain thing of him. Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children, with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
20:21 And he said to her, What wilt thou? She saith to him, Say that these my two sons sit, one at thy right half, and one at thy left half, in thy kingdom. He said unto her: What wilt thou have, She said unto him: Grant that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand in thy kingdom. And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She said to him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one at thy right hand, and the other at thy left hand in thy kingdom. And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant, that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left in thy kingdom.
20:22 Forsooth Jesus answered, and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Be ye able to drink the cup that I am to drink? They say to him, We be able. Jesus answered and said: Ye wot not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of. And to be baptised with the baptism that I shall be baptised with, They answered to him: That we are. And Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I shall be baptized with? They said to him, We are able. But Jesus answered, and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
20:23 He saith to them, Ye shall drink my cup; but to sit at my right half or at my left half, is not mine to give to you; but to whom it is made ready of my Father. He said unto them: Ye shall drink of my cup, and shall be baptised with the baptism that I shall be baptised with all: But to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give: but to them for whom it is prepared of my father. And he said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and shall be baptized with the baptism, that I am baptized with, but to sit at my right hand, and at my left hand, is not mine to give: but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my father.
20:24 And the ten hearing, had indignation of the two brethren. And when the ten heard this, they disdained at the two brethren. And when the other ten heard this, they disdained at the two brethren. And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
20:25 But Jesus called them to him, and said, Ye know, that the princes of heathen men be lords of them, and they that be more, haunt power on them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said: Ye know, that the lords of the gentiles have domination over them, And they that are great, exercise power over them. Therefore Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the lords of the Gentiles have domination over them, and they that are great, exercise authority over them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great, exercise authority upon them.
20:26 It shall not be so among you; but whoever will be made more among you, be he your minister; It shall not be so among you: But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister, But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your servant, But it shall not be so among you: But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.
20:27 and whoever among you will be first, he shall be your servant. and whosoever will be chief, let him be your servant. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant, And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.
20:28 As man’s Son came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life redemption for many. Even as the son of man came, not to be ministered unto, but to minister: and to give his life for the redemption of many. Even as the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for the ransom of many. Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
20:29 And they going out of Jericho, many companies followed him. And as they departed from Jericho, much people followed him. And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And as they departed from Hiericho, a great multitude followed him.
20:30 And lo! two blind men sitting beside the way, heard that Jesus passed; and they cried, saying, Lord, the son of David, have mercy on us. And behold two blind men sitting by the wayside, when they heard, that Jesus passed by cried saying: Master the son of David have mercy on us. And behold, two blind men, sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried saying, O Lord, the son of David, have mercy on us. And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
20:31 Forsooth the company blamed them, that they should be still; and they cried more, saying, Lord, the son of David, have mercy on us. And the people rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: But they cried the more, saying: have mercy on us master which art the son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, O Lord, the son of David, have mercy on us. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
20:32 And Jesus stood, and called them, and said, What will ye, that I do to you? Then Jesus stood still, and called them, and said: what will ye that I should do to you? Then Jesus stood still, and called them, & said, What will ye that I should do to you? And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
20:33 They say to him, Lord, that our eyes be opened. they said unto him: Master, that our eyes may be opened. They said to him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
20:34 And Jesus had mercy on them, and touched their eyes; and anon they saw, and followed him. Jesus pitied them, and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight: And they followed him. And Jesus moved with compassion touched their eyes, & immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
