3:1 In those days came John Baptist, preaching in the desert of Judaea, In those days Jhon the Baptiser came and preached in the wilderness of Jewry And in those days, John the Baptist came and preached in the wilderness of Judea, In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
3:2 saying, Do ye penance, for the kingdom of heaven shall nigh. saying: Repent, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And said, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3:3 Forsooth this is he, of whom it is said by Esaias, saying, A voice of a man crying in desert, Make ye ready the way of the Lord; make ye rightful the paths of him. This is he of whom it is spoken by the prophet Esay, which saith: The voice of a crier in wilderness, prepare the lord’s way, and make his paths straight. For this is he of whom it is spoken by the Prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his paths straight. For this is he that was spoken of by the Prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
3:4 Forsooth that same John had clothing of camel’s hairs, and a girdle of skin about his loins; soothly his meat was locusts, and honey of the wood. This Jhon had his garment of camel’s hair, and a girdle of a skin about his loins. His meat was locusts, and wild honey. And this John had his garment of camel’s hair, and a girdle of a skin about his loins: his meat was also locusts & wild honey. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
3:5 Then Jerusalem went out to him, and all Judaea, and all the country about Jordan; Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Jewry, and all the region round about Jordan, Then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan. Then went out to him Hierusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,
3:6 and were christened of him in Jordan, acknowledging their sins. and were baptised of him in Jordan, knowledging their sins. And they were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7 Soothly he seeing many of Pharises and of Sadduces coming to his baptism, said to them, Generations of adders, who shewed to you to flee from wrath to come? When he saw many of the pharises and of the saduces come to his baptism, he said unto them: O generation of vipers, who hath taught you to flee from the vengeance to come? Now when he saw many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come? But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his Baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 Therefore do ye worthy fruits of penance, bring forth therefore the fruits belonging to repentance. Bring forth therefore fruits worthy amendment of life. Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.
3:9 and do not ye say within you, We have Abraham to our father; for I say to you, that God is mighty to raise up of these stones the sons of Abraham. And see that ye ones think not to say in yourselves, we have Abraham to our father. For I say unto you, that God is able of these stones, to raise up children unto Abraham. And think not to say with yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: For I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
3:10 And now the ax is put to the root of the tree; therefore every tree that maketh not good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. Even now is the axe put unto the root of the trees: so that every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be hewn down, and cast into the fire. And now also is the axe put to the root of the trees: therefore every tree, which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: Therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
3:11 Soothly I christen you in water, into penance; but he that shall come after me is stronger than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost and in fire. I Baptise you in water in token of repentance, but he that cometh after me, is mightier than I: whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. he shall baptise you with the holy ghost, and with fire, Indeed I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that cometh after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear, he shall baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
3:12 Whose winnowing cloth is in his hand, and he shall fully cleanse his floor, and shall gather his wheat into his barn; but chaffs he shall burn with fire unquenchable. which hath also his fan in his hand, and will purge his floor, and gather the wheat into his garner, and will burn the chaff with everlasting fire. Which hath his fan in his hand, & will make clean his floor, and gather his wheat into his garner, but will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner: but will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee into Jordan to John, to be christened of him. Then came Jesus from Galile into Jordan, to Jhon, for to be baptised of him. Then came Jesus from Galile to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan, unto John, to be baptized of him:
3:14 Soothly John forbade him, saying, I owe to be christened of thee, and comest thou to me? But Jhon forbade him, saying: I ought to be baptised of thee: and comest thou to me? But John put him back, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
3:15 Forsooth Jesus answering said to him, Suffer now, for so it becometh us to fulfill all rightwiseness. Then John suffered him. Jesus answered and said to him: Let it be so now. For thus it becometh us to fulfill all rightwiseness. Then he suffered him. Then Jesus answering, said to him, Let be now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. So he suffered him. And Jesus answering, said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
3:16 Forsooth Jesus christened ascended up anon from the water; and lo! heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down as a dove, and coming upon him; And Jesus as soon as he was baptised, came straight out of the water: And lo heaven was open unto him: and he saw the spirit of god descend like a dove, and light upon him. And Jesus when he was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened unto him, & John saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.
3:17 and lo! a voice from heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in which I have well pleased to me. And lo there came a voice from heaven saying: this is my dear son in whom is my delight. And lo, a voice came from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
